After Ironman Wisconsin in 2005, I ran into some IT Band problems and generally began to fall apart. I had trouble sleeping, anxiety, and sickness. Don was able to address all of these problems together and helped me to "attain balance." Not only did the acupuncture help but he also had many other supplement suggestions to try. After each session I feel absolutely relaxed and happy to go on about my day.  The needles can be intimidating at first but I assure you Don knows what he is doing and his main focus is to make you better.

I would recommend acupuncture to anyone with any type of aliment, it really can help.  I feel that his treatments have helped clear up my issues and allowed me to concentrate on racing Ironman Hawaii in 2006.

I admit I was a skeptic when I started acupuncture-I was also on 3 different asthma meds and STRESSED OUT!  Eight weeks later I was completely off my meds and no longer a skeptic!  I was also much calmer and felt ÒbetterÓ than I had in years-even my friends notice the difference and my family commented on my better mood.  Don is awesome at what he does-just go in with an open mind and donÕt be afraid to try new things-breathing techniques, herbs, etc.  Definitely one of the best things I have ever done!

The hour and a half massage always flies by and I always leave feeling very relaxed. His prices are a steal, which makes it easy for college students to afford his services. Don is very professional and really cares about the wellbeing of his clients.

As a college student, I had all the typical stresses, aches and pains, especially from the dorm beds.  A friend of mine informed me about Don and how he had helped him, so I decided to try it for myself.  I went to Don's office and the atmosphere he provided was professional, soothing, and relaxing.  Not only did Don fix all of my aches and pains, but he told me how to prevent them in the future by performing little daily stretches.  Don was always telling me about new procedures he thought I would like and he was right!  For the past three years, I have recommended Don to my friends and they have all come away with the same feeling: complete bliss.

When I first met with Don I'd been trying to recover from a post-marathon knee injury for nearly a year.  I'd gone from being able to run 26.2 miles to being happy if I could make it to 3 miles pain free.  I'd tried physical therapy, glucosamine/chondroitin supplements, and talked to a surgeon about taking more drastic measures.  I'd recently graduated from college and didn't have insurance coverage and was running out of money to spend on things that weren't helping at all.  My mom had back problems for years and the only thing that helped her was acupuncture so I did a search online and learned about some studies that had had success in treating knee injuries with acupuncture.  Then I looked up local acupuncturists in my area and e-mailed Don.  His response was so encouraging I didn't even bother to search for anyone else, even when he told me he was out of town until the following month.  Our first appointment he spoke with me for over an hour, learning the history of my injury and figuring out exactly what I hoped to get out of our sessions together.  I warned him that I didn't like needles very much and he did everything he could to help me relax and he adjusted his approach based on what I was comfortable with.  I relaxed more and more with each session and after my first 6 I signed up for 5 more.  I would have signed up for even more but he was moving away and by then I was also running so much further than I had in months that it didn't even seem necessary.  Within 2 weeks I was able to run 6 miles.  The next week I ran 7 and the week after that I ran 8 miles!   Before I met Don, I'd pretty much decided to give up trying to run long distances, despite how much I missed it.  With his help and encouragement I'm back to running 3-4 days a week, my total mileage is going up each week, and I'm looking forward to training for another marathon next year.

I'd known about acupuncture for years and always thought it was kind of "out there". But, when my arthritis pain became really bothersome and not being the type to take pills, I decided to give it a try. I was pretty skeptical beforehand, but simply amazed afterward at how well it worked. It even helped my sugar cravings!  I am a nurse, and would definitely recommend trying this. Pills and medication have their place, but they also all have side-effects, so if they aren't really necessary other approaches to pain control, in my opinion, are preferable.

Your massages were always relaxing and professional.  I was always impressed with your understanding of the body's connections and how you used your knowledge to give a very unique and comprehensive treatment.  You always took into careful consideration what I wanted and needed from your massages.  Thank you again.

I recently experienced an acute onset of severe neck discomfort, including muscular pain and spasm.  The cause of my injury was unknown, but two days afterward Don was able to visit me for a treatment session.  It was easy to feel comfortable with the multiple techniques (including acupuncture) used during my session, although I had never experienced it before, because they were clearly explained and gently applied.  My trust in Don's abilities was quickly earned, as he adapted the process to my needs and comfort level.  I cannot emphasize enough my amazement at the quick recovery after treatment.  While more than one session would admittedly have been ideal, the one made a dramatic impression and made it possible for me to return to the work I love more quickly.  Thank you!!!

After two years of searching for help, I went to Don for acupuncture to ease digestive problems with acid reflux, extreme amounts of stress, and pains with my TMJ joint from clenching my jaw at night.

Each session proved to be more helpful than any other form of alternative medicine I found in the twin cities of Minnesota and Madison, Wisconsin. In combination with an improved diet, exercise, medication, and Don's advice and willingness to help with an affordable price for sessions, my health had noticeably improved in all aspects of my life. His friendly approach and genuine pursuit to make you feel better is what puts him at the top of his field.

I'm a huge advocate of the whole acupuncture experience. It's amazing how many connections there are within the body and how the problems we experience within our bodies are inter-related. I started acupuncture sessions with Don because I thought I might have had chronic fatigue syndrome. I simply had NO energy. It was very hard for me to go from working out everyday, to doing nothing at all.  I just couldn't keep my eyes open, not even in classes. I know some professors may be just that dull, but it was beyond that for me. I began acupuncture not knowing what to expect, but I was willing to give it a chance. Don has been very attentive to figuring out what works, what doesnÕt and what will. I was getting treatments 3 times a week and within 3 weeks I noticed a huge difference.  I was working out again and filled with energy. Even in the classes where no one else could keep their eyes open, I was able to!  The best part of acupuncture is that you can go for just about anything! If your eye hurts-acupuncture; glands swollen- acupuncture; chest cold-acupuncture; cramps-acupuncture. The list goes on and on.

To put it bluntly, acupuncture works.

Having a sleeping problem for as long as I can remember made me think that there was no other alternative than to use prescription drugs.  Then, someone talked to me about acupuncture and that's how I met Don.  Let me tell you that Don is awesome!  The very first day we met he goes through the procedure, different options and asks questions, really showing that he cares about making a person feel comfortable and safe.  He's patient, kind, and very informative.  Don gives you not only one point of view but many, and lets the patient decide where to go from those options.  Don has a way of understanding people, and it's a way that I'll never understand.  He is not only a great doctor, but has become a great friend, and is someone anyone can really trust.  Had I not moved to another state far away from Don I would have continued with acupuncture because it was helping with my sleep problem, or lack there of.  Now, since IÕve moved, Don has been kind enough through emails and phone calls to still check up on me and help me even though I'm so far away and that's what makes a difference from a good doctor to a great doctor.  He is truly amazing and a great NATURAL healing miracle worker.  So let me tell all you folks out there...Don is the best and if you just give him a chance you'll see that I'm right.

I'm so sorry I didn't discover Don Quaintance earlier. I've only gotten massage from him for a brief period of time but what a master I've discovered he is! He is a genius acupuncturist and transfers his knowledge of acupressure beautifully to massage. He is gracious, creative, smooth, strong, and thorough. His attention to detail is also outstanding. His use of warm towels, warm oil, and fresh flowers under the headrest on the floor add to making the experience of working with him exquisite. I have loved his massage so much that I've had my whole family experience his expertise!

Stress is a HUGE part of my life as a student here at UW-Madison.

Instead of being constructive about my stress, I tend to harbor it within my body.  Don has really helped me to release that stress and get back to feeling calm through acupuncture and massage.  He is amazing, knowledgeable, and I am completely comfortable and relaxed during and after my sessions.

Before I came to Don, the pin that they left in my foot bothered me so much that it was hard for me to walk normal with out limping. I admit never having anything like that done before, I was somewhat skeptical but definitely open minded for trying anything new. The medical doctors couldn't take the pin out for another year and said that it was something I would have to live with or I could take pain meds which neither sounded like great options.  During the first treatment, I could feel a tingling sensation in my injured foot and it started to feel "normal" again. I was so excited because I loved working out (running) and wasn't able to do that due to the pain. After several treatments, not only was I was walking normal, but I could run again! Also, as a side benefit, some of the points used to treat my foot pain also helped with my sinus pressure. So that was a great added bonus! Thank you so much again for bringing this excellent alternative medicine option to the vet school! Without acupuncture, I know that I would have been in pain for longer than necessary and unable to run. Now, every person that I talk to that has joint pain or arthritis I tell them about my experience in hopes that acupuncture can lessen their pain as well. Continue doing your great work and good luck with the clinic!!!!

Don is a friend of mine who I knew had an acupuncture practice.  While I knew he could treat many ailments, most did not apply to me.  However, I did have a growing problem with second-hand smoke.  If I met up with friends for a few drinks out on the town, I would come home with watery eyes, a pounding headache and just feeling miserable.  I knew he could teach my body not to react this way, but the needle-thing still freaked me out.  I finally broke down after another miserable end to and evening and called Don.  He was very patient about my needle phobia, and after a few treatments I got used to the experience.  I think I only had to see him about 6 times before I felt ÒcuredÓ.  Who know acupuncture could do all of that?

I am a busy mom and Realtor and spend the majority of my life running around taking care of everyone else except myself.  After meeting Don and feeling immediately comfortable with him I decided to give his services a try.  I need any help I can get to find some relief, healing for my knotted shoulders and time for just me.  What really impressed me was his genuine interest in my lifestyle and how non judge-mental he was about it.  I donÕt lead a calm, peaceful life and I was afraid I was going to get scolded when I went to see him at first and that he was going to tell me everything I should do to slow down, exercise more, eat better, and all that other good stuff that is way easier said than done.  So the impressive part was that he was easy on me, yet determined to help me get better at a speed I could handle.  Which meant slowly but surely, with complete awareness and in good spirit.  Don has amazing talent and skill and his compassion for everyone that he meets is what really separates him from the rest.

I developed tendonitis in my left hip when I was pregnant with my son.  After he was born, I tired to go back to my rigorous exercise schedule and my usual active schedule.  I found the tendonitis was limiting my exercise and daily routine, which was very frustrating to me.  With a combination of anti-inflammatory nutritional supplementation as well as Don QuaintanceÕs acupuncture, the tendonitis decreased to an acceptable level after 2 treatments, and was finally GONE after 3 treatments!  There are also several other chronic maladies that the acupuncture has helped, such as trigger points in my back, a rotator cuff injury in my right shoulder and unexplained and painful gas during my periods.

I have always wanted to try acupuncture, because I thought it may help, but had always been afraid of the needles.  I can honestly say that it is not painful, and is actually a very pleasant experience overall, especially since I now feel great and pain free!

Don spent a considerable amount of time explaining the procedures to me before beginning my treatment.  He put me at ease by providing a thorough description of what he was going to do before doing it.  I am impressed by DonÕs willingness to consult with other professionals in order to provide the most comprehensive services possible.  Since beginning my course of acupuncture, I am much less dependent on medication to manage my symptoms.

Don takes the time to listen to my issues and treats me with respect. His candid and honest approach to discussing health issues is refreshing.  I greatly appreciate how Don can treat me as a whole person instead of having to be referred from one specialist to another.

Don frequently goes Òabove and beyondÓ with his treatment: he follows up to see how youÕre feeling; he researches additional products or services that might be beneficial for you; and he demonstrates a true concern for you as a person.  His knowledge and professionalism distinguishes him from others in the acupuncture field.

Don has provided me with truly extraordinary service.  His persistence for discovering the source of my health issues resulted in a drastic improvement in my condition.

I was recommended by friends to try Attain Balance for the treatment of upper back pain. After a thorough consultation, Don integrated a number of practices (acupuncture, cupping and massage) to loosen my back, neck and chest muscles. Not only did my back return to normal, but I also found a drastic reduction in my daily stress levels. The acupuncture therapy along with suggestions on diet, exercise and herbal remedies has greatly improved my quality of life.

Don takes the time to know his clients' history and personality, which leads to a professional yet friendly relationship that you won't find in the typical health clinic. His vast knowledge and approach provides for an experience and results beyond expectation.

Before seeing Don, I had tried chiropractic, homeopathy, Rolfing and many other alternative treatments.  Some helped.  None, however, even came close to the results that I have seen with Don.  I have even previously tried acupuncture with other practitioners, but with little success.

IÕve been getting acupuncture treatments from Don for several months.  I have suffered with severe allergies and chronic asthma for several years.  Before treatments with Don, I was having daily asthma symptoms, was taking six medications, and often had to take anti-biotics for sinus and bronchial infections.  Even worse, I had to take prednisone during high allergen times (the side effects were nearly as bad as the asthma!)  Shortly after beginning treatments with Don, my coughing and shortness-of-breath greatly improved.  Eventually I was able to stop taking one of my medications completely, and I only had to use my inhalers during heavy allergen concentrations or when I would get a cold.  His herbal and Òat homeÓ recommendations have really helped me help myself.  Oh, by the way I havenÕt had to take prednisone yet, at all.

A great side effect of his treatments is my sleep has improved greatly.  It used to take me at least 45 minutes to fall asleep, then I would toss and turn, and wake up several times per night.  Now I can get to sleep in about 5 minutes!  I have also slept through the entire night 3 times in the past few months.  Now, that may not sound like much to you, but consider that before Don, I had slept through the night only SEVEN times in the last TWENTY YEARS!  It is quite an amazing change.  I might have to start using my toes to count the number of nights IÕve slept through at this rate!

A bonus is DonÕs down to earth style and great enthusiasm for his work.  He knows what heÕs talking about and has the gift to explain acupuncture in ways that are understandable to everyone.  I highly recommend Don and have sent both my friends and my family to him.

Each time IÕve started acupuncture, my asthma symptoms decrease and likewise each time I stop the symptoms increase.  There is a type of experimental procedure called ABAB in which one subject is put on a type of medication and taken off several times to prove efficacy.  My own experiment with myself as the subject has certainly proved to my skeptical mind that acupuncture is not only effective for my asthma, but that it is the MOST effective treatment.  It also makes it clear that the acupuncture itself is the actual cause of the symptom decrease, not just a coincidence.

Don helped me bring my stress level from a 9 down to a 4 or 5, which is saying quite a lot while trying to survive the first year of vet school with a 2 and 5 year old, and a husband.  He is very good at what he does, always respectful and amazingly funny and insightful.  I recommended him to all my classmates while he was here and all of them couldn't stop raving about him.  I HIGHLY recommend him.

I have experienced various injuries concerning my neck and upper back area.   The application of multiple modalities including Western and Eastern medicine (chiropractic, yoga and acupuncture) I have overall decreased pain and stiffness in the affected areas.  Don is able to personalize treatments for the degree of pain I was experiencing.  Included in pain reduction was a decrease in stress using acupuncture treatments.

Don is by nature a healing artist whose personality is open and friendly.  I was very comfortable trying acupuncture due to the level of concern he demonstrated in explaining the placement of needles and that I was still in control of any discomfort I may have experienced during treatments.

Being a veterinary student has not been easy. Acupuncture helped me substantially to get through my first year of Veterinary school. I was going through some significant GI problems at that time and it definitely helped me to control the back pain and the pain from the ulcers. Stress was also an issue for me. I suffer from severe torticollis, which is when your neck muscles are so tense and contracted that you cannot move your neck normally. Don with his acupuncture techniques, together with massage and natural oils took away the pain and stress to the area.

Complementary therapy for chronic pain takes time, as it would with traditional medicine, but it really works. Every time that I would have my acupuncture appointment I would be so relaxed afterwards it would help me concentrate better both at school and at work. I highly recommend acupuncture and Don to people with chronic illness, stress, depression, and many others ailments.

IÕve been struggling with a shoulder injury for four months. I tried rest, stretching, and numerous doses of muscle relaxants and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications, but nothing worked.  I decided to try acupuncture.  Within 6 visits, the pain was literally gone!  While my shoulder still acts up (less severely) with stress, at least now I can to manage it, and the pain goes away with the techniques Don taught me!

-Beth K., DVM

During an intensely stressful period in my life, Don not only helped manage my headaches, neck pain and anxiety with acupuncture, he also radiated a sense of humor and gentleness that further accelerated my healing.

Don has turned me from a non-believer into a believer!  I know it sounds corny, but itÕs true.  Thank you so much for all of your help!
